AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE CAPTURE OF WILD BIRDS OF PREY

This Bill amends the Wildlife Act by adding provisions that prohibit the capture of wild birds of prey for the purposes of falconry or public display.

HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of British Columbia, enacts as follows:

1 Part 1 of the Wildlife Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 488, is amended in section 19 by adding the following subsection:

(5) Notwithstanding subsection (1) a regional manager or a person authorized by a regional manager may not issue a permit to a person to capture a wild raptor for the purposes of falconry or for public display.

2 Part 1 of the Wildlife Act, R.S.B.C. 1996, c. 488, is amended by adding the following section:

35  A person commits an offence who captures a wild raptor for the purposes of falconry or for public display.
