Part 2 — Restrictions on Open Seasons
1 (1) Repealed. [B.C. Reg. 203/94, s. 7.]

(6) In that portion of M.U. 1-6 bounded on the north by the southern boundary of the District of Campbell River, on the west by the eastern boundary of the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority 138 KV Transmission line right of way, on the south by the southeastern boundary of the Comox Strathcona Regional District and on the east by the mean high water mark on the Strait of Georgia, the open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from September 10 to December 10.
(6.1) In that portion of M.U. 1-6 that is known as Denman and Hornby Islands, the open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from October 5 to December 10.
(7) The open season on antlered and antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer in that portion of Sidney Island outside the boundaries of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and on James Island and above the mean high water mark of both, is August 26 to February 28.
(8) In those portions of M.U.s 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 1-5 and 1-6 that are contained within the following described boundaries:
(a) commencing at the mean high water mark of the eastern coast of Vancouver Island at the southern boundary of the District of Campbell River and proceeding west along said boundary to the westerly boundary of Highway 19; thence southerly along said highway to its intersection with the junction of Highways 19, 4 and 4A and the British Columbia Hydro and Power Authority transmission line right of way 763 in the vicinity of Parksville; thence southerly along said transmission line to the north side of Dumont Road; thence along the north side of Dumont Road to its intersection with the boundary of the City of Nanaimo; thence northerly along side said boundary to the mean high water mark of the eastern coast of Vancouver Island; thence northerly along said high water mark to the southern boundary of the District of Campbell River;
(b) commencing at a point that is the mean high water mark on the north bank of the mouth of Bush Creek which flows into Ladysmith Harbour; thence westerly along the north bank of Bush Creek to its intersection with the west boundary of British Columbia Hydro transmission line right of way 763; thence northerly along said transmission line to its most southerly intersection with the boundary of the City of Nanaimo; thence easterly along said boundary to the mean high water mark of Northumberland Channel; thence southerly and westerly along the mean high water mark to the point of commencement;
(c) commencing at a point that is the mean high water mark on the north bank of the mouth of Bush Creek which flows into the Ladysmith Harbour; thence westerly along the north bank of Bush Creek to its intersection with the west boundary of BC Hydro transmission line right of way 763; thence southerly along said transmission line to its intersection with the mean high water mark of Finlayson Arm of Saanich Inlet, due West of Sawluctus Island; thence in a general northerly direction along the mean high water mark of Saanich Inlet, Sansum Narrows and Stuart Channel to the point of commencement;
(d) commencing at the intersection of Dumont Road and the British Columbia Hydro transmission line right of way 763; thence southeasterly along the east side of said transmission line right of way to its intersection with the Nanaimo City boundary near Richards Lake, approximately 1.5 km east of Harewood Lake; thence southwesterly 800 m; thence northwesterly along a line 800 m southwest from the British Columbia Hydro transmission line right of way 763, to position 49° 09' 29" north latitude, 124° 01' 22" west longitude; thence to the point of intersection with the outlet of Witchcraft Lake; thence in a northwesterly direction to the point of intersection with the end of the paved portion of Weigles Road (position 49° 11' 40" north latitude, 124° 05' 53" west longitude); thence northeasterly along the east side of Weigles Road to the intersection of Dumont Road and Biggs Road; thence along the east side of Dumont Road to the point of commencement, including all intervening territory;
(e) commencing at a point that is the mean high water mark that is the south bank of the Goldstream River which flows into Saanich Inlet; thence southerly along the south bank of the Goldstream River to its confluence with Langford Creek; thence southerly along Langford Creek to its confluence with Langford Lake; thence southerly along the northeast shore of Langford Lake to the most southerly point on Langford lake; thence southeasterly to the most northerly point of Glen Lake; thence southeasterly along the northeast shore of Glen Lake to the confluence with Colwood Creek; thence downstream on Colwood Creek to the mean high water mark of south Vancouver Island; thence in a generally easterly, northerly, westerly and southerly direction along said high water mark to the point of commencement;
(f) those portions of M.U. 1-1 that are known as the Gulf Islands, except for Valdes Island,
excluding all Indian Reserve lands,
the open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from September 10 to December 10.

(12) On that portion of M.U. 1-15 known as Quadra Island south of the midline of North Gowland Harbour Road and Lakberg Road, the open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from September 10 to December 10.

(14) For the purpose of section 26 (1) of the Act, there is no open season on mule (black-tailed) deer bucks from September 10 to December 10 in that portion of M.U. 1-6 known as Managed Forest Unit (MFU) 19 Block 8 Iron River unless the buck has at least two tines (points) on one antler, not including the brow tine, and each tine is at least 2.5 cm in length.
(15) For the purpose of subsection (14), a person commits an offence if the person kills a mule (black-tailed) deer buck during an open season for mule (black-tailed) deer bucks in Region 1 and does not, when returning from hunting, keep the antlers of the deer and the species licence under which the deer was killed together and available for inspection by an officer.
(16) On those portions of M.U. 1-06 known as Denman and Hornby Islands, the open season for mule (black-tailed) deer bucks is from October 5 to December 10.
(17) On that portion of M.U. 1-1 known as Valdes Island, the open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is November 1 to November 10.

1.1 (1) The open season for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer in M.U.s 1-1, 1-2 and 1-4 to 1-6 is as follows:
(a) August 25 to September 9, restricted to the use of the bow only;
(b) September 10 to December 10.
(2) The open seasons described in subsection (1) are restricted to persons who are less than 18 years of age.

4 (1) The open season for hunting with a bow only for
(a) mule (black-tailed) deer bucks and black bear in M.U.s 1-1 to 1-15, is from August 25 to September 9, and
(b) blue and ruffed grouse in M.U.s 1-1 to 1-15 is from August 20 to August 31.

(d) Repealed. [B.C. Reg. 169/2020, App. 3, s. 11 (b).]
(2) Repealed. [B.C. Reg. 115/2018, App. 2, s. 7 (d).]
(3) In those portions of M.U.s 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 1-5 and 1-6 as described in section 1 (8) (a), (b) and (c) of this Part, excluding all Indian Reserve Lands, the open season for hunting with a bow only for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer is from August 25 to September 9.
(4) The open seasons for hunting with a bow only, listed in subsection (1) (a) and (b), do not apply to the following areas:
(a) those portions of M.U. 1-1 known as the Gulf Islands, other than Gabriola Island;
(b) that portion of M.U. 1-5 being the watershed of the south fork of the Nanaimo River.
(5) The open season for hunting with a bow only listed in subsection (3) does not apply to that portion of M.U. 1-1 that is known as Valdes Island and that portion of M.U. 1-5 being the watershed of the south fork of the Nanaimo River.

5 (1) There is no open season on wildlife except ducks, coots, common snipe, snow geese, Ross' geese, Canada geese, cackling geese and white-fronted geese in

(b) Cape Scott Park west of Dakota Creek only (M.U. 1-13),
(c) Gibson Marine Park (M.U. 1-8),

8 A person commits an offence where the person hunts

9 (1) There is no open season for black bear in those portions of M.U. 1-15 contained within the following described boundaries:
(a) commencing at the main bridge crossing on the Klinaklini River; thence southwesterly in a straight line to the summit of Mount Blair; thence southerly in a straight line to the summit of Swampfly Peak; thence easterly in a straight line to the summit of Costello Peak; thence northerly in a straight line to the point of intersection of the midlines of Franklin River and Stanton Creek; thence northwesterly in a straight line to the point of commencement and including all intervening territory;
(b) commencing at the northeastern corner of Lot 497, Coast Range 2 Land District; thence in a southerly direction to the southeastern corner of Lot 497; thence along the lot boundary in a westerly direction to the midpoint of Kakweiken River; thence upstream in a northerly direction to the confluence of Kakweiken River and Elbow Creek; thence due East along the northern boundary of Lot 497 to the point of commencement and including all intervening territory;
(c) commencing at the highest point of land within Lot 1209; thence northwesterly in a straight line to the summit of Flora Peak; thence northeasterly in a straight line to the extremity of Macdonald Point; thence southeasterly in a straight line to the highest point of land of the western boundary of the watershed of Pete Lake; thence southwesterly in a straight line to the point of commencement.
(2) There is no open season for black bear in those portions of M.U. 1-14 contained within the following described boundaries:
(a) commencing at the southwest corner of Lot 137, Coast Range 2 Land District; thence in a general northerly direction along the natural boundary of Kingcome Inlet to the point of intersection with the westerly boundary of Lot 137; thence northerly in a straight line to the northwest corner of Lot 137; thence easterly along the northerly boundary of Lot 137 to the southwest corner of Lot 138; thence northerly along the westerly boundary of Lot 138 to the northwest corner of Lot 138; thence easterly along the northerly boundary of Lot 138 to the southeast corner of Lot 140; thence northerly in a straight line to the northeast corner of Lot 147; thence westerly along the northerly boundaries of Lots 147 and 145 to the point of intersection with the midline of the Kingcome Mainline logging road; thence in a general southerly direction along the midline of the said road and a prolongation thereof, to the point of intersection with the natural boundary of Kingcome Inlet; thence southeasterly in a straight line to the point of commencement and including all intervening territory;
(b) commencing at the northwest corner of Lot 74 Coast Range 2 Land District; thence southerly in a straight line to the southwest corner of Lot 74; thence easterly along the southerly boundary of Lot 74 to the northwest corner of Lot 69; thence southerly in a straight line to the point of intersection with the northerly boundary of Lot 64; thence westerly in a straight line to the northwest corner of Lot 64; thence southerly in a straight line to the point of intersection with the natural boundary of Wakeman Sound; thence southeasterly in a straight line to the southwest corner of Lot 63; thence easterly in a straight line to the point of intersection with the midline of the Wakeman Sound Mainline logging road; thence in a general northerly direction along the midline of the said road to the northeast corner of Lot 72; thence westerly in a straight line to the point of commencement and including all intervening territory.
(3) There is no open season on black bear in that portion of M.U. 1-11 within 800 m of the intersection of Beaver Cove Road and Telegraph Cove Road.

(2) There is no early season (prior to the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving Day) for Canada and cackling geese in that portion of M.U. 1-4 prescribed as a seasonal no shooting area in section 7 of Schedule 6 in B.C. Reg. 76/84, except in the following defined area, commonly known as the ex-Dinsdale property, where hunting is only by permission of the landowner:
Lot 1, Block 4 Section 9, Ranges 2 and 3, Block 2 (DD4627910) of Section 10, Range 2; Cowichan District, Plan 1725.
(3) The Canada and cackling geese season in the area known as the ex-Dinsdale property and described in subsection (2) is restricted to hunting only by permission of the landowner for the 10 days starting with the Saturday preceding Thanksgiving Day and from the 3rd Saturday in December to December 31 and the 3rd Saturday in February to March 10.

12 There is no open season for upland game birds in that portion of M.U. 1-6 being all of Denman Island together with the adjacent foreshore between the natural boundary of Denman Island and the mean low water mark.

Part 3 — Bag Limits and Possession Limits
1 (1) Repealed. [B.C. Reg. 180/96, s. 13 (a).]
(2) The regional bag limit for mule deer is 3, of which 2 may be antlerless and 2 may be bucks.
(3) Repealed. [B.C. Reg. 222/2005, s. 8 (b).]
(4) Despite subsection (2), the bag limit for mule (black-tailed) deer, in those portions of M.U. 1-1 consisting of that portion of Sidney Island above the mean high water mark and outside the boundaries of the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve and that portion of James Island above the mean high water mark, is 3, of which 3 may be antlerless.

(7) Despite subsection (2), the bag limit for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer, during the September 10 to December 10 youth only season in M.U.s 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 1-5 and 1-6, is one.
(8) Despite subsection (2), the bag limit for antlerless mule (black-tailed) deer, during the August 25 to September 9 youth bow only season in M.U.s 1-1, 1-2, 1-4, 1-5 and 1-6, is one.
