E 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone Service

1   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to provide E 9-1-1 Emergency Telephone Service as an extended service.

Transit

2   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to provide Transit as a local service.

Prohibition of wild animal acts

3   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to prohibit wild and exotic animal acts under sections 680 (a) and 704 (d) of the Local Government Act within all electoral areas, as an extended service.

Wharves

4   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to acquire and operate wharves under section 550 of the Local Government Act, as a local service.

Removal of dangerous buildings and other structures

5   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to exercise the powers conferred on the council of a municipality under section 727 of the Local Government Act, as an extended service.

Emergency Programs

6   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to provide Emergency Programs as an extended service under the Emergency Program Act.

Surface drainage waters

7   (1) The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to provide for the collection, conveyance, treatment and disposal of surface drainage waters as a local service.

(2) If the board adopts a bylaw under subsection (1), sections 551 (a) and (c), 552 (1) (a), 553 (1) and (3), 574 (1), (2) and (8) and 603 of the Local Government Act apply.

Landscaping

8   The Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to provide landscaping under sections 533, 541 (2) (b), 542 (1) (a), (b), (c) and (e), 542 (2) (e), 544 and 548 of the Local Government Act for those parts of highway shown in heavy outline on the plan attached as Schedule B, as an extended service.

Acquiring access to regional parks and trails

9   For the purpose of establishing and maintaining a regional park and a regional trail, the Nanaimo Regional District is granted the additional power to acquire, by lease, licence or permit, for any term access to or over land within an area designated as set out in section 4 (1) (a) of the Park (Regional) Act.
